Provider/Child Ratios

About Ratios

Ratios are an important factor when looking for quality child care.  When interviewing the provider ask them about their provider/child ratio.  The following ratios were created by the Office of Licensing.

In Family Child Care the maximum number of infants that can be cared for at any time, unless a second caregiver is present:  3 children below 1 year.

The maximum number of toddlers that can be cared for at any time, unless a second caregiver is present:  4 children below 2 years, and no more than 2 children shall be younger than 1 year.

Before making a selection visit several providers. Download this check-off list to compare the places you see. If you have any questions, please contact our Consumer Education Resource Specialist, Janet Soto at or call 609-261-6834, ext. 5144.
